Comments from Authors

"Peter Randall, my publisher, encouraged me from the beginning to continue with my work. Since this was my first attempt to write a book, I needed someone like Peter to show me the way. His background that included publishing over 400 works, many of them on local history, made me confident that he could steer me through this process that was so unfamiliar to me. The quality of the book, the layout and design work done by his designer Grace and the photograph on the dust jacket all contributed to the appeal of the book."
—Jean Foley Doyle, author, Life in Newburyport, 2007

"I am delighted with the appearance of the book. The cover is beautiful! It isn't very often among reprints that I have seen that the reprint looks better than the original. Thank you for all your assistance."
—Maurice M. Whitten, author, Gunpowder Mills of Maine.

Pam Fox I called Peter Randall Publisher because the firm had published histories of several adjoining towns. I visited the office and was impressed by the variety and quality of past publications. Peter himself is a local historian and photographer who understands how authors and non-profit organizations can finance and market their own work. I contacted him several times during my years of writing, and appreciated his encouragement and enthusiasm.
I appreciated the freedom to shape my book the way I wanted it.
One of the principal advantages of self-publishing is control over content. I could also set my own target date for completion, based on my own schedule.

When I arrived at [Peter Randall's] office four years later with the completed manuscript, Peter immediately began the process of transforming it into a printed book. I worked with a copy editor and layout designer chosen as appropriate to my particular project. My colleague and I suggested a format we liked for the page layout and made other design decisions. We chose the paper and cloth binding and worked with an in-house designer on the book jacket. The galleys were sent out to be indexed. Peter's capable and patient staff made last minute changes. It is exciting to see an idea become a reality with the help of a firm dedicated to quality and service.
